Troubleshooting and FAQ
This page only covers behavior that EduGeyser adds. For general Geyser problems, see Common Issues.
Troubleshooting
"An error occurred" immediately after connecting
This usually means the server is not running EduGeyser. Verify you are using the EduGeyser jar, not standard Geyser.
Education players have usernames like +Mark or +Mark_2
This is expected. Education players get a prefix (configurable in the EduFloodgate config), and a _N suffix appears when two education players with the same display name are online at the same time. See EduFloodgate.
Regular Bedrock players can no longer connect
EduGeyser supports Education and Bedrock clients at the same time. If Bedrock players cannot connect, make sure EduFloodgate is installed alongside EduGeyser and Floodgate is set up as usual per the Floodgate setup guide.
Players get "Invalid Tenant ID" or are disconnected immediately
The player's education sign in may have expired. Have them restart Education Edition to get a fresh session.
FAQ
Can Education and Bedrock players be on the same server?
Yes. EduGeyser detects each client type automatically. Both play together.
Do players need to install anything?
No. Players connect through Education Edition's own connection dialog with the Connection ID, or through join codes if configured.
Is this safe for schools?
Players authenticate through their Microsoft 365 Education accounts, and their identity is cryptographically verified through Microsoft education services. The server can identify each player's organization (tenant) and role (student or teacher).
Can players from different organizations join the same server?
Yes. The Connection ID works across all tenants, so players from any school or organization can join with the same ID. Join codes are per tenant. To restrict which organizations may join, use the tenant whitelist.
Does this cost anything?
The software is free. No Microsoft licenses, admin accounts, or subscriptions are needed for basic education support.
